|
Zeocin is an antibiotic in the bleomycin family. Its mode of action is to intercalate into
the DNA and degrade it. The Zeocin resistance gene encodes a 13,665 dalton protein.
This protein confers resistance to Zeocin by binding to the antibiotic and preventing it
from binding DNA. Zeocin is effective on most aerobic cells and can be used for selection
in mammalian cell lines, yeast, and bacteria. For Zeocin to be active, the salt concentration
in the selection media must be less than 90 mM NaCl. The amount of Zeocin required for
selection will vary with each cell type.

Zeocin is provided in a solution with a concentration of 100 mg/ml. Zeocin should be
stored at -20C in the dark. When stored correctly, the drug is guaranteed for 6 months
from the date of shipment.
